New Delhi: Union minister for Urban Development Kamal Nath said that Kochi Metro project would be given to DMRC only. On whether the charge of Kochi Metro be entrusted to E Sreedharan will be taken jointly by the state govt and DMRC. The centre would not interfere in this. He also said that the Kochi Metro would be on the lines of Chennai Metro.
Opposition leader V S Achuthanandhan had on Sunday alleged that the govt lacks clarity in implementing the Kochi Metro project. The government appears to be dithering on handing over the Kochi metro rail responsibility to DMRC, he had told reporters.
The previous govt had decided to hand over the project to DMRC. And according to that only, the govt had spent money in the first phase. It is also learnt that Metro Rail MD Tom Jose had discreet meetings in Bangalore on this and the govt seems to be oblivious of that. But E Sreedharan is a honest man and that is the reason the project need to be entrusted to him, VS said. VS also added that the govt is trying to make Tom Jose and Sreedharan work together.
